The Wayne County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to revoke the probation of 54-year-old Steven R. Koontz of Fairfield following allegations that he failed to comply with court-ordered financial obligations stemming from a fatal crash.
Koontz was sentenced to 24 months of probation after being convicted in connection with an August 6th, 2018 crash on Route 15 near the Little Wabash River bridge that resulted in the death of 66-year-old Beverly L. Johnson, also of Fairfield. Authorities said Koontz was texting while driving at the time of the collision.
According to the petition filed by State’s Attorney Kyle Ellis, Koontz has failed to pay $7,035 of the $7,185 in fines, fees, and court costs assessed in the case. Court records indicate he has made only a $150 payment toward that total.
An arraignment on the petition to revoke probation has been scheduled for July 29th in Wayne County Circuit Court.
