53-year-old Brian K. Simpson of Fairfield appeared Tuesday morning in Wayne County Circuit Court, where he was formally arraigned on five Class X felony counts of possession of child pornography involving victims under the age of 13.
Judge Denton Aud presided over the hearing. Wayne County State’s Attorney Kyle Ellis appeared on behalf of the State, while Simpson, currently in custody, was represented by Public Defender Jon Meador.
Following the return of indictments on all five counts, Tuesday’s hearing transitioned to an arraignment. Simpson waived formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty to each charge.
At the request of Simpson’s attorney and with no objection from the State, the pre-trial and detention hearing was continued to Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Wayne County Circuit Court. The court advised Simpson of his right to a timely detention hearing, which he voluntarily waived.
