A rural Albion man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a domestic dispute at his home last Sunday that escalated into violence against responding officers.
According to Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe, law enforcement was forced to make entry into the residence of 49-year-old Edward J. Piland to take him into custody. During the arrest, Piland allegedly punched Edwards County Deputy Drayke Cowling and Grayville Police Chief Mason Seigal, who had responded as backup.
Piland has been formally charged with:
Aggravated battery of a police officer (Class 2 felony)
Aggravated intimidation of a police officer (Class 2 felony)
Domestic battery with physical contact (Class A misdemeanor)
Resisting arrest (Class A misdemeanor)
He made his first appearance in Edwards County Circuit Court on Tuesday, where the court ordered that he be held in custody pending transfer to an in-patient psychiatric facility.
Piland will appear in Edwards County Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 1st for a first advisement hearing in the case.
