Congressman Bost Calls For New Audit of USPS St. Louis Distribution Center Amid Mail Delays

U.S. Congressman Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) is demanding a fresh audit of the United States Postal Service Mail Distribution Facility in St. Louis, citing persistent delays and continued frustration among Southern Illinois residents.

The St. Louis distribution center is a vital hub for mail operations across the region, and while the facility was last audited in 2022, Bost says promised reforms have failed to materialize in meaningful improvements for his constituents.

“Southern Illinoisans depend on the Postal Service for timely and reliable mail delivery; if the system fails them, there must be accountability,” Bost stated. “While an audit was conducted in 2022 with assurances of future reforms, my constituents have not seen the improved level of service they deserve. Therefore, I believe a new top-down review of operations at the St. Louis facility is necessary.”

Bost’s office confirmed that the renewed audit request is driven by a growing number of complaints related to increased mail delays in the region. This is not the first time such issues have been raised; mail service disruptions were also widely reported in 2023, sparking public concern and legislative attention.

If approved, the audit would reexamine operations at the St. Louis facility and potentially lead to structural or policy changes within USPS aimed at restoring reliable service throughout Southern Illinois.
