St. Louis Cardinals 7, Cleveland Guardians 0 The St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the Guardians with a 7-0 shutout victory in Cleveland. Matthew Liberatore earned his sixth win of the season after striking out five batters and letting up three hits through six scoreless frames. The Cards’ bullpen then did not allow a single hit through the game’s final three innings. Nolan Gorman and Victor Scott-the-second both homered and combined for five RBI’s to help St. Louis improve to 47-and-38. The Cardinals send Erick Fedde to the mound against the Pirates tonight in Pittsburgh at 5:40pm.

Houston Astros 2, Chicago Cubs 0 The Chicago Cubs had just five hits during a 2-0 loss to the Houston Astros from Daikin Park yesterday. Jameson Taillon gave up a two-run home run to Jose Altuve in the bottom of the fifth, and the Northsiders trailed the rest of the way. Taillon was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs on five hits in four-and-two-thirds innings. The Cubs remain in first place in the NL Central at 49-and-35. They host the Guardians tomorrow night.

NHL News:
The St. Louis Blues added three new players to their organization over the weekend. The Blues selected forward Justin Carbonneau in the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday. They also picked forward Mikhail Fyordorov and goaltender Love Harenstam on the second day of the draft on Saturday. St. Louis wrapped up the weekend by signing back-up goaltender Joel Hofer to a two-year extension worth six-point-eight million dollars.

The Chicago Blackhawks added eight players to their organization over the weekend. The Blackhawks selected forwards Anton Frondell, Vaclav Nestrasil, and Mason West in the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday. Chicago made five more selections in rounds two-through-seven on Saturday.

(Undated) — The NBA offseason is about to start heating up. NBA free agency begins on Monday at 6 P.M. Eastern when players and teams can start agreeing to terms of a contract. Some of the top free agents this summer include Indiana center Myles Turner, Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga, Boston big man Al Horford, and San Antonio point guard Chris Paul. There are moves that have happened over the past week that have already begun to shape the market, with LeBron James exercising his player option and James Harden and Kyrie Irving both agreeing to new deals with the Clippers and Mavericks. New contracts cannot be officially signed until July 6th.

LeBron James Picks Up Player Option For 2025-26 Season:
The Lakers received some positive news from their superstar forward over the weekend. Los Angeles star LeBron James is exercising his 52.6-million-dollar player option for the 2025-26 season. The NBA’s career scoring leader wants to compete for a championship next season and will be closely monitoring the team’s offseason moves and whether the team is positioning itself for a run at the title. The 40-year-old is set to enter a record-setting 23rd NBA season and has not committed to playing beyond next season. James averaged 24.4 points through 70 games played last season.

Report: Blazers Buying Out Ayton:
The Trail Blazers are parting ways with a starter. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the team is negotiating a buyout with center Deandre Ayton, who was entering the final year of his current deal. Ayton spent two seasons with the Blazers after he was acquired from the Suns. Ayton averaged 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in just 40 games with Portland this past season due to a calf injury.

Report: Rockets Sign Jabari Smith Jr. To Extension:
The Rockets are locking up one of their young playmakers with a long-term deal. ESPN reports that Houston is signing forward Jabari Smith Jr. to a five-year, 122-million-dollar rookie contract extension. The fully guaranteed deal keeps Smith under team control through the 2030-31 season. The 22-year-old averaged 12.2 points and seven rebounds through 57 games played last season. The Rockets selected Smith with the third overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Federal Prosecutors Investigating Pistons Guard Malik Beasley For Gambling:
Federal authorities are investigating Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley on allegations of gambling related to NBA games and prop bets. The probe stems from the 2023-24 season, when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. At least one major sportsbook found unusual activity centered around Beasley’s stats beginning in January 2024. The Pistons told ESPN they were aware of the investigation, but defered comments to the NBA.

Report: Stars Hire Glen Gulutzan As HC:
The Dallas Stars have their new head coach. ESPN reports that Dallas is hiring Glen Gulutzan [[ GULL-it-sen ]] as the team’s head coach 12 years after he was fired by the organization. Gulutzan was most recently serving as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers. He will replace Pete DeBoer, who was fired earlier this month after three straight trips to the Western Conference Final. The 53-year-old coached the Stars from 2011-to-2013, compiling a 64-57-and-9 record and failing to make the playoffs in both seasons.

Clark And Collier Named WNBA All-Star Captains:
The WNBA has announced the captains for this year’s All-Star Game. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier are the top two vote-getters in fan voting. Clark led all players with over 1.2-million votes while Collier received 1.1-million votes. The other eight starters will be announced Monday night. Team Clark will take on Team Collier in Indianapolis on July 19th.

Aldrich Potgieter Wins The Rocket Classic:
Aldrich Potgieter is celebrating his first career Tour victory after winning the Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club. Potgieter took down Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk in a five-hole playoff after all three players finished tied atop the leaderboard at 22 under par. The 20-year-old is the seventh-youngest Tour winner since 1983. Defending champion Cam Davis failed to make the cut.

Chase Elliott Wins Quaker State 400:
(Hampton, GA) — Chase Elliott is celebrating a NASCAR Cup Series victory at EchoPark Speedway. The driver of the Number-9 car led a total of 41 laps on the way to victory lane in the Quaker State 400 on Saturday. Brad Keselowski, Alex Bowman, Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones rounded out the top-five in the first round of the inaugural In-Season Challenge. The field heads to the streets of Chicago on Sunday for the Grant Park 165, which will mark the second race of the In-Season Challenge.
