Wayne County’s unemployment rate saw a decrease to 3.5% according to the latest data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Wabash County’s jobless rate fell from 3.7% in May of last year to 3.2% this May, making it one of the lowest in southern Illinois—just slightly above Richland County’s 3.1%.
Other area counties also saw improvements. Lawrence County’s rate dropped to 3.7%, Edwards County declined by seven-tenths of a point to 3.4% and White County fell to 3.8%.
The statewide unemployment rate for May stood at 4.4%.
