Board members of the Hamilton County Board gathered for their June meeting to review county business, highway funding, and board appointments.

The only item tabled during the meeting was an ordinance concerning Hamilton County’s Battery Energy Storage Systems. Board Chairman Kelly Woodrow noted he would seek additional information and consult with Bellwether before bringing the item back for consideration at a future meeting.

Highway Commissioner Rick Coronado presented a request for additional funds to oil and chip an extra five miles of roadway. With each mile costing $16,000, the board unanimously approved transferring $80,000 from the Coal Fund to the Highway Department.

The board also revisited the ongoing discussion about renovating the Courthouse bathrooms. While bids are still being accepted, members recommended contacting the local Chamber of Commerce for possible grant opportunities.

Several administrative items received board approval, including the County Clerk’s Semi-Annual Report, the Claims List, and an Engineering Services Agreement with Hutchinson Engineering for the Shelton Creek Drainage project.

In board appointments, Terry Drone was reappointed to the Southeastern Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission. Kenny Aydt and Greg Muehlenbein were reappointed to the Hamilton Memorial Board. The board also unanimously appointed Kim Vaughn to fill an open seat on the Hamilton Memorial Board.

The next Hamilton County Board meeting is scheduled for July 15 at 6:00 p.m.
