Friday night around 10:00 pm, a Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Kenneth Newman of Fairfield, was found to be operating the vehicle with a revoked Illinois driver’s license. Newman was also determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Jail.

On Saturday, Wayne County Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Cisne.   During the investigation, officers determined there was probable cause to arrest 45-year-old Steven Snyder of Dix for domestic battery. Snyder also allegedly pointed a handgun at a passing vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and drive through a yard to avoid him. Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area, but Snyder had fled before he could be located.

Early this (Monday) morning, a Wayne County Deputy spotted Snyder walking in Fairfield. When approached, Snyder refused verbal commands to stop. The deputy drew a Taser and again issued commands, at which point Snyder complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Snyder faces charges of:

Domestic Battery

Aggravated Assault

Snyder is being held in the Wayne County Jail pending a court appearance.
