The Clay County Bicentennial celebration is this Saturday around the square in Louisville, packed with family-friendly activities, live music, history programs, and a fireworks show to close the night.
Those participating in the quilt display can drop off quilts at the Art Studio on the north side of the square Friday or Saturday between 9 AM and Noon.
The day kicks off at 8 AM with a 5K run/walk hosted by Helping Hands, a non-profit group of Flora Bank & Trust employees. The race starts at the Clay County Courthouse, and participants can register online at runsignup.com/bicentennial5K or in person up to race time. Registration is $25.
Official opening ceremonies begin at 4 PM, with free Wi-Fi on the square provided by Wabash Communications. Activities starting then include a car show, food vendors, quilt show, inflatables, and worship music by Abel.
The schedule features:
5 PM – Kids Pedal Pull sponsored by the Clay County Farm Bureau Young Leaders, plus live music from Richard Rudy, Laila Smith, and Avery Bohnoff
6 PM – Barn quilt program by the Clay County Genealogical Society at the art studio, and Street Scrabble sponsored by Bethel Christian Church
6:30 PM – Official dedication ceremony, recognition of 5K winners, and setting of the time capsule. Live history programs by Bill Atwood on former Governor John Riley Tanner, and Matt Lovett on early settler John McCawley
7:30 PM – Live performance by the Andy King Band; Red Brush Christian Church will also host kids’ games on the southeast corner of the courthouse square
To help visitors get around, North Clay Unit #25 will run a free shuttle bus every 15 minutes between the North Clay High School circle drive and the Courthouse Square from 4 PM to 10 PM.
The celebration wraps up with a fireworks show at 9 PM.
