32-year-old William Franks of West Salem, has been sentenced to five years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, according to Wabash County State’s Attorney Kelli Storckman.

An investigation by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department revealed that Franks had moved into a home in Wabash County where children were present, without updating his registered address. He had previously listed his residence in West Salem, Edwards County.

The failure to report the change of address constitutes a felony under Illinois law and led to the prison sentence.

Franks is required to register as a sex offender for life due to a 2013 conviction in White County, where he was found guilty of unlawful sexual contact with a 13-year-old victim while he was 23.
