Troy Cannon, the former Marion County Coroner, has been released from the Jefferson County Jail and placed under strict home confinement while awaiting trial on seven serious counts of child abuse involving two minor victims.

Cannon’s release comes after a court ruling allowed his release under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 604, which permits pretrial release for defendants who are not pleading guilty and are challenging the charges against them. Initially, Marion County courts denied Cannon’s release, citing him as a danger to women and girls under age 18, but the ruling from higher court authority allowed his conditional release.

Under the terms of his home confinement, Cannon is prohibited from having any contact with the victims or their families and was admonished on all rules he must strictly follow.

Cannon is scheduled to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on July 30th at 10:00 a.m., ahead of his jury trial.
