Alice Lucy Shaffer, age 92, of Clay City

Alice Lucy Shaffer, age 92, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home.

She was born November 29, 1932, the daughter of Thomas Eli Jr. and Pearl S. (Sands) Fellows. She was united in marriage to John Richard “Dick” Shaffer in October 1965, and together they have shared 59 wedding anniversaries.

Alice worked alongside her husband, Dick, at their business, Shaffer Oil, where she served as secretary and treasurer. In their younger years, she and Dick enjoyed dancing together. More recently, they enjoyed spending time fishing for crappie on Lake Okeechobee during winters at their home in Florida. Alice was a member of Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City and the Clay City Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband: Dick Shaffer of Clay City; daughter: Karen (Bob) Butler of Grove City, Ohio; 8 grandchildren: Amanda (Mark) Joseph of Worthington, Ohio, Melissa (Ken) Peterson of Hilliard, Ohio, Andrew Butler of Grove City, Ohio, Shae (Toni) Moseley of San Diego, California, Sheena (Jake) Cooley of Louisville, Brian (Wendy) Shaffer of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jeremy (Dawn) Shaffer of St. Peter, Braxton (Ann) Shaffer of Xenia; 15 great grandchildren: Kelsey (Brian) Torres, Karli (Zack) Whitt, Annabelle Peterson, Calista Peterson, Simon Peterson, Lilia Joseph, Collin Flowers, Aunicka Flowers, Wyatt Cooley, Kennedy Cooley, Isaac Shaffer, Silas Shaffer, Freya Shaffer, Sylvia Shaffer, Lizzie Shaffer, and Paisley Shaffer; 2 great-great grandchildren: Miles Carroll and Everett Whitt; and sister-in-law: Judy Moseley.

She is preceded in passing by her parents; 3 sons: Doug Shaffer, Bill Moseley, and Allen Moseley; daughter-in-law: Rhonda Moseley; and 2 brothers: Roger and Dean Fellows.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Pastor David Starr officiating. Interment will follow in Clay City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City, and these will be
