Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office have announced the awarding of $5 million in grant funding through the inaugural Fire Station Construction and Rehabilitation Program, benefiting several area departments.

Area departments receiving funding include Tamms, Equality, Shawneetown, McLeansboro, Ava, Gorham, Buncombe, Vienna, Kell, Carrier Mills, Ware-Wolf Lake, and Norris City. The grants will assist with repairs, upgrades, or new construction of fire stations.

Sixteen recipients were selected statewide through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity process. Each grant provides up to $350,000 and is intended to improve emergency response infrastructure across Illinois.
