Billie-Jo Townsend, Deputy Clerk in the Wayne County Clerk’s Office, has formally announced her candidacy to succeed long-time Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow, who is set to retire at the end of her term in November, 2026.
A Fairfield native, Townsend is the daughter of Jeff and the late Misty Elliott. She is married to Luke Townsend, a registered nurse in the cardiac unit at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville. Woodrow shard that the couple welcomed their baby boy on Thursday.
Townsend graduated from Fairfield Community High School in 2012 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Indiana. Since returning to Fairfield, she has worked in the clerk’s office for over a year. Woodrow praised Townsend’s dedication, saying she has been very eager to learn the job duties of the office and truly enjoys her work.
According to Woodrow, Townsend is the first confirmed candidate to enter the race, though other potential candidates may still make announcements in the future.
