Area Drug Dealers Sentenced to Federal Prison

Five area drug dealers, including one from Mt. Vernon, IL, have been sentenced to federal prison for distributing meth, fentanyl, or cocaine in the southern Illinois area.

The five sentenced include 46-year-old Marvelous Burnett of Mt. Vernon, who pleaded guility to 16 counts of distributing a controlled substance, cocaine, and one count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance, cocaine.  He was given a 162 month sentence for selling cocaine in the Mt. Vernon, Centralia and Vandalia areas from 2023 through 2024.

The others sentenced included 53 year old Jason Barnes of Odin, Illinois, 61 year old Kenneth Thornton and 37 year old David Barnes both of Centralia, and 40 year old Karie Holstlaw of Salem. David Barnes was sentenced on cocaine charges, Thornton on fentanyl charges, Jason Barnes on meth charges, and Holstlaw on meth charges.

Offices contributing to the investigation include the FBI Springfield Field Office’s Southern Illinois TOC-West Task Force and the Centralia Police Department.
