Heat Relief?

For those looking for relief from the current heatwave, weather forecasters at the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky say help may be on the way, but not until later next week.

The current weather forecast is indicating hot temperatures continuing for the next several days.  A Heat Advisory is in effect through noon on Monday.  An Excessive Heat Watch then goes into effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening as the area could experience heat index values as high as 110 degrees.

By next Thursday, forecasters are expecting a cold front to move through, dropping the afternoon high temperature to around 85 degrees.  The extended weather forecasts, running through August 8th, also indicate a chance for slightly below normal temperatures and slightly above normal precipitation for the region.

As far as the area river stages this morning, the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield remains above the 17-foot flood stage, at 25.16 feet.  At Clay City the stage is 19.26 feet, above the 18-foot flood stage.  At Carmi the river is at 24.29 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 6.61 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 9.14 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 2.64 feet.  The Ohio River at Old Shawneetown at the Illinois-Kentucky border is at 18.11 feet, below the 33-foot flood stage.
