New Arrest Made in Mt. Vernon Shooting

The Mt. Vernon Police Department has identified and arrested another suspect in connection with the early morning shooting that occurred on Sunday in the 600 block of South 15th Street. Jamaro J. Kemmerling, a 26-year-old male from Mt. Vernon, IL, has been taken into custody. He has been charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender. Jerria J. Smith, 22-year-old female from Mt. Vernon, IL was arrested early this week and charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Obstruction of Justice. She was subsequently released due to a lack of evidence This investigation is still in its early stages. Detectives are actively developing leads and gathering evidence. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated as the investigation into this senseless act of gun violence continues.
