(Champaign, IL) — The Illinois Fighting Illini basketball program is bringing in a four-star recruit. 2026 recruit Ethan Brown committed to Illinois yesterday. Brown chose the Illini over Northern Iowa, Missouri State, and Saint Louis, among other programs.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals had just five hits during a 2-0 loss to the Miami Marlins at Busch Stadium. St. Louis went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base. Miles Mikolas was charged with his eighth loss after allowing two runs on five hits in six frames. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 55-and-55. They visit the Padres tomorrow night.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals are clearing out their bullpen. The Cardinals traded closer Ryan Helsley and long reliever Steven Matz away yesterday. Helsley is headed to the Mets in exchange for prospects Jesus Baez, Nate Dohm, and Frank Elissalt. St. Louis shipped Matz up to Boston and received minor league first baseman Blaze Jordan. Helsley was 3-and-1 with 21 saves and a 3.00 ERA in 36 games for the Cardinals this season.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The Chicago Cubs salvaged their series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 10-3 win from American Family Field. Moises Ballesteros drove in three runs in the victory, while Ian Happ and Michael Busch both went deep. Shota Imanaga earned his eighth win after allowing three runs on five hits in five innings. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central at 63-and-45. The Cubs host the Orioles tomorrow.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs are bolstering their pitching staff. The team traded for Mike Soroka and Andrew Kittredge yesterday. Soroka spent the first half of the season with Washington. He’s 3-and-8 with a 4.87 ERA in 16 starts this season. Kittredge comes over from the Orioles, where he went 2-and-2 with a 3.56 ERA in 30 appearances out of the bullpen.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning during a 9-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Rate Field. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero each hit three-run home runs in the frame, while Colson Montgomery and Kyle Teel also homered in the victory. Mike Vasil picked up the win in relief. The Southsiders are in last place in the AL Central at 40-and-69. They visit the Angels tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox are parting ways with an outfielder. The Southsiders sent Austin Slater to the Yankees yesterday. Chicago will be receiving minor league pitcher Gage Ziehl in return. Slater hit .236 with five home runs and 11 RBI’s in 51 games with the Sox this season.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Fever continue to roll after topping the Phoenix Mercury 107-101 from Indianapolis. Aari McDonald led the Fever in scoring with a career-high 27 points. Indiana has won three in a row and will visit the Wings tomorrow night in Dallas.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears will honor a pair of franchise legends during the 2025 season. The team will wear a number-76 decal on its helmet for Hall of Fame defensive lineman Steve McMichael. McMichael passed away in April. The Bears will also wear a patch that honors former owner Virginia McCaskey on their jersey. McCaskey died in February.

(Westfield, IN) — The Colts could be looking to add to their secondary. On Wednesday cornerbacks Wyatt Ekeler, Tre Herndon, Christian Holmes, Myles Jones and Duke Shelley were brought in for workouts. In other news, Indianapolis announced that season tickets have sold out for the 2025 season.

(Canton, OH) — The NFL is back with the official start of the preseason tonight. The Detroit Lions are set to battle the Los Angeles Chargers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The matchup features a pair of teams that have not taken part in the Hall of Fame Game since 1994, when the Chargers took the field. The Lions are making their first appearance in the game since 1991. The league is preparing for the enshrinement of wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, tight end Antonio Gates, defensive end Jared Allen and defensive back Eric Allen into the hallowed halls of Canton this weekend.
