Prosecutors have filed a motion to hold Megan Valentine in civil contempt for allegedly refusing to unlock her cellphone as ordered by the court.
Investigators want access to the device as part of the ongoing probe into the November 5th, 2024, shooting death of her husband, Edwards County Circuit Judge Michael Valentine.
In the motion, prosecutor David J. Robinson wrote that Valentine “knows the passcode to her iPhone 15 and simply refused to produce it.” He is asking the court to fine her $50 per day until the code is provided.
Robinson also requested that if Valentine fails to produce a working code before trial, jurors be informed of her refusal as possible consciousness of guilt, similar to evidence destruction or witness tampering.
The contempt motion is set for hearing on September 25th in Edwards County Circuit Court.
