Fairfield City Council Recap from 6/27/23

The Fairfield City Council held its 2nd session of the month of June Tuesday Evening at Fairfield City Hall.

Under routine business, the city approved the fiscal year 2024 appropriations, acknowledged planning letters from Kemper CPA Group in regard to the 2023 audit, approved a street closure of a portion of Lero Street from June 5th thru the 9th for a tennis tournament, approved a marketing contract with RJ Marketing for $14,400 for maintenance of the city website plus digital marketing and social media management.

The council pulled the purchase of a vehicle for the police department off the agenda. Mayor Gary Moore told the council that the dealer the city was working with to attempt to order a new vehicle is unable to take an order for a fleet vehicle until the 2025 model year. During the meeting, the council also approved the allowing of bidders to bid on the city power plant property.

During the meeting, Mayor Moore mentioned the power plant property had been put up for bid twice, however, the minimum bid was ne never met both times, and all bids were rejected. Moore says there has been recent interest in the property.

In a project that has taken nearly 2 years, Wayne-White Electric has informed the city that they have received a ship date for new smart meters for the month of July. Officials with Wayne White say that once they get the meters in, they will work on a plan on getting them installed throughout the area.

The city has been notified of large item pickup dates changing in the months of July, August, and September. Normally, large item pickup for the city is held on the first Friday of the month, but will be taken care of on the third Friday of the month during those months. Those dates will be July 21st, August 18th, and September 15th.

The city was also notified of what will be accepted as part of the large item pickup from Sunrise Sanitation. According to Sunrise Sanitation, they will allow for 1 large furniture item or items that are smaller than 4 by 4. Dishwashers and water heaters will be the only accepted appliances.

Finally, the city has been made aware of a fee schedule on a few things related to extra totes, non-payment and redelivery. According to Sunrise Sanitation, additional totes are available for $5 per month. A redelivery fee for non-payment on a 2nd tote will be $30 and to replace a stolen tote, it will cost $70.
