The game was tied at two before Nolan Gorman hit an RBI single. Pedro Pages homered in the victory, and Sonny Gray earned his 11th win after allowing one earned run and one unearned run on five hits in seven innings. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 60-and-59. They send Miles Mikolas to the mound against the Rockies tonight. The Cubs are in second place in the NL Central at 67-and-50. They visit the Blue Jays tomorrow night.

(Undated) — The first week of the NFL preseason is in the books. The LA Chargers beat the New Orleans Saints 27-13 and the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears played to a 24-24 tie in Sunday’s action. Rookie quarterbacks shined throughout the league. Number one overall pick Cam Ward completed five of eight passes for 67 yards in limited action as the Tennessee Titans fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 29-7 on the road. Shedeur Sanders shined in his professional debut, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Cleveland’s 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

(Florham Park, NJ) — The Jets are gaining some reinforcements in their front seven. New York activated edge rusher Jermaine Johnson from the physically unable to perform list on Sunday. Johnson is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles he suffered in Week Two of last season. He remains on schedule to be ready for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 7th.

(Atlanta, GA) — Jen Pawol is now the first woman umpire in Major League Baseball history. She first took the field during Saturday’s doubleheader between the Miami Marlins and Braves in Atlanta. Pawol then made even more history by calling Sunday’s series finale behind home plate. The game’s first pitch was called a strike by Pawol. Braves pitcher Joey Wentz tossed the historic baseball to the dugout for it to be authenticated by Major League Baseball.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Isaac Collins capped a big day with a walk-off solo home run, giving the Brewers a 7-6 home win over the Mets. Collins went three-for-five with the homer and two runs scored, while William Contreras and Joey Ortiz had three RBIs each. Nick Mears got the win in relief. The Brewers have won nine in a row to move to 73-and-44, the best record in MLB. Cedric Mullins and Brett Baty both hit round-trippers for New York in the setback.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Reds are getting their ace back. The team announced Hunter Greene will start Wednesday’s game against the Phillies from Cincinnati. The righty hasn’t pitched since early June due to a groin injury, which was the same ailment that sidelined him for two weeks back in May. Greene is 4-and-3 with a 2.72 ERA to go with 73 strikeouts in just under 60 innings this season.

(New York, NY) — The NBA’s Christmas slate has reportedly been revealed. Multiple sources say it will kick off with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the New York Knicks. The San Antonio Spurs will visit the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Houston Rockets. The Dallas Mavericks will take on the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Denver Nuggets. It will be a busy sports day this Christmas as the NFL will feature three games on the holiday as well.

(Sunrise, FL) — The Panthers are hoping one of their stars will be ready for the regular season. Matthew Tkachuk [[ KUH-chuhk ]] told ESPN it’s “undecided” if he needs surgery for a torn adductor muscle and a sport hernia. The forward could be sidelined for two-to-three months. Tkachuk missed the second-half of last season but racked up 23 points in 23 playoff games to help secure Florida’s second straight Stanley Cup.

(Memphis, TN) — Justin Rose earned his 12th career Tour victory after winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis. Rose took down JJ Spaun in a three-hole playoff after both finished atop the leaderboard at 16 under par. Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood finished tied for third at 15 under. Defending champion Hideki Matsuyama finished tied for 17th at seven under par.

(Watkins Glen, NY) — Shane van Gisbergen is celebrating a landslide victory in the Go Bowling at the Glen race. The driver of the Number-88 car led Christopher Bell by more than 11 seconds to take home the checkered flag at Watkins Glen International. Chris Buescher, William Byron and Chase Briscoe rounded out the top-five finishers. The NASCAR Cup Series field rolls into Richmond next Saturday for the Cook Out 400.
