SKATELAND ROLLERSPORT IN FAIRFIELD LISTED FOR SALE AFTER 57 YEARS OF COMMUNITY MEMORIES

After 57 years as a beloved recreational hub in Fairfield, Skateland Rollersport is officially up for sale. Owner and operator Elaine Parker announced the news in a recent statement, reflecting on the rink’s long history and its deep roots in the community.
The skating rink’s story began across from Maple Hill Cemetery, operated by Loy Harper. In 1968, when the Harpers moved to Kentucky, they sold the rink to Parker, who had skated there as a child. Business flourished, and the rink soon needed more room. The operation was relocated to the former Parker Lumber Company building—once owned by Elaine’s father, Carl Parker, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. The building was remodeled into a skating venue complete with a beginners’ floor for young skaters.
After a decade, continued growth created the need for an even larger space, with safer parking away from heavy traffic. In the summer of 1980, Parker purchased nearly two acres of land from Emmitt Hoffee. On December 12, 1980, the new Singing Wheels Skateland opened in a 13,000-square-foot steel building, a name chosen by Parker’s mother, Bea.
Over the years, Skateland has been a gathering place for families, offering a clean, safe atmosphere for fun and fitness. “Skating has great health benefits and I feel we have all benefitted from that,” Parker said. “It has brought joy to my life to be able to stay in this community with people like those who live in Wayne County and beyond all these years.”
With the rink now listed for sale, Parker expressed hope that its next chapter will keep it as a recreational and entertainment center for the community—continuing the tradition of family fun that has defined Skateland for more than half a century.
