HOUSTON TEXAS MAN IDENTIFIED AS THE PERSON KILLED IN SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER CRASH ON I-57 SOUTH OF MT. VERNON

A 22-year-old Houston, Texas, man was killed Saturday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash in a construction zone on Interstate 57 south of Mt. Vernon.

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse identified the victim as Jaquan Roberts, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Hayse, Roberts’ vehicle struck a guardrail, causing it to overturn one or two times. He remained inside the vehicle during the crash and sustained multiple injuries.

Roberts’ girlfriend, who was a passenger, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Illinois State Police said the crash occurred at 9:38 p.m. Saturday near milepost 89, approximately six miles south of Mt. Vernon. Both southbound lanes were closed for about two hours for investigation before reopening.
