90 year old Barnhill resident, Sammy T. Simpson passed away Monday morning. August 11, 2025 at the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Sammy was born November 15, 1934 in White County, Illinois to Samuel V. and Martha P. (Tucker) Simpson. Following the death of his mother, Sammy was raised by Bill and Cora Gooch. Sammy was a 1953 graduate of Enfield High School. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960.
Sammy married Rose Carter on June 15, 1963 at the Mill Shoals Christian Church in Mill Shoals, IL. Sammy and Rose celebrated 56 wedding anniversaries before her passing on September 16, 2019. Sammy along with his brother Roscoe, were in the excavating business for over 40 years. He was a member of the Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge for 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 brothers.
Sammy is survived by his daughter; Kim (Ivan) Gaston of Albion, Il, 2 sisters; Jervaise (Mark) McDaniel of Albion, IL and Berdena Hawkins of Palestine, IL. A special niece and nephew; Nancy Etheridge and Neil Clevenger. A brother in law; Danny (Debbie) Carter of Mattoon, IL. 2 granddaughters; Heather (Kevin) Scarbrough and Tiffany (Matt) Triemstra. 4 great grandchildren; Kolt, Addie, Carter and Liam.
A Masonic Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2025 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to service time on Friday. Burial will follow at the Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals with Military Honors performed by the Anthony Wayne Post 176 American Legion and The Wayne Memorial Post 4535, VFW. Memorials can be given to the Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge and will accepted at the funeral home.
