The Cardinals led by a run entering the final frame before JoJo Romero surrendered a go-ahead home run to Hunter Goodman. Romero was charged with his fourth loss in relief, while Lars Nootbaar and Alec Burleson both went deep in the losing effort. St. Louis remains in fourth place in the NL Central with a 61-and-61 record. The Cards host the Yankees tomorrow night.

Cade Horton earned his seventh win after striking out eight and allowing just one run on one hit in five-and-two-thirds innings. Michael Busch and Matt Shaw both homered in the victory, while Daniel Palencia picked up his 16th save. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central with a 68-and-51 record. >>NBA Announces NBA Cup Group Play Schedule
(New York, NY) — This year’s edition of the NBA Cup will tipoff on Halloween. The league released the group play schedule for the in-season tournament on Wednesday. Some of the highlights of group play include the Los Angeles Clippers visiting the LA Lakers on November 25th and the Golden State Warriors hosting the Houston Rockets on November 26th. The knockout rounds will start December 9th. The championship game will be played December 16th in Las Vegas.

(New York, NY) — A historic rivalry will be the first NBA game featured on Amazon Prime Video. The league announced the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks will meet in the first game of a doubleheader on October 24th. It will be followed by the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Prime Video will feature Friday night doubleheaders throughout the season. The full NBA schedule will be released today.

(Boston, MA) — The Celtics are one step closer to having new ownership in control. The NBA board of governors on Wednesday unanimously approved the sale of the Celtics to a group led by private equity mogul Bill Chisholm. The league expects for the transaction to close shortly. Chisholm will take ownership of at least 51 percent of the team, with full control coming by 2028 at a price that could bring the total value of the sale to 7.3-billion-dollars.

(Portland, OR) — The Portland Trailblazers reportedly have a new owner. According to multiple reports, Tom Dundon has reached an agreement to buy the NBA franchise for a valuation of more than four-billion dollars. Dundon also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. The will of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen ordered the team to be sold after he died in 2018. Allen bought the team for 70-million dollars in 1988.

(Undated) — The Denver Broncos are mourning the death of a member of the team’s Ring of Honor. Former Denver wide receiver Lionel Taylor died on August 6th. He was 89. Taylor was a member of the 1960 Broncos, which is the first year that the franchise played in the then-newly formed AFL. He was the first receiver in either AFL or NFL history to record at least 100 receptions in a season. Taylor ranks fourth in franchise history in receptions and receiving yards. He is also believed to be the first African American coach to be named a coordinator in the NFL after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1980 and 1981 seasons.

(Cleveland, OH) — An electric rookie quarterback could miss his next preseason game. Browns gunslinger Shedeur Sanders is working through an oblique injury and was held out of joint practice with the Eagles on Wednesday. The sides clash from Philadelphia on Saturday. Sanders is coming off an impressive debut where he threw for almost 140 yards to go with a pair of touchdowns in a Week One win over the Panthers.

(Miami, FL) — The Dolphins are hoping a key player on defense dodged a bullet. Chop Robinson was carted off the field with an undisclosed injury during joint practice with the Lions on Wednesday. The linebacker posted to social media that it’s “nothing serious.” Robinson recorded six sacks as a rookie last season. In other news, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle returned to practice after recovering from minor injuries.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Falcons’ second-year quarterback is getting down and dirty. Michael Penix Jr. was involved in a fight during joint practice with the Titans on Wednesday. The scuffle happened after Penix completed a long pass which led to both sides exchanging words and eventually blows. Another fight broke out just one play later. The sides clash from Atlanta in Week Two of the preseason on Friday.

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers will be without their struggling slugger for the foreseeable future. Texas has placed outfielder Adolis Garcia on the 10-day injured list because of a sprained left ankle. The 32-year-old is batting .224 with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs through 116 games played this season. The team activated Evan Carter in a corresponding move. Carter has missed 10 games due to back spasms and is currently hitting .244 with four homers and 22 RBIs through 56 games.

(South Williamsport, PA) — The first day of the Little League World Series is in the books. In the US bracket, the kids from Las Vegas, Nevada had 18 hits in a 16-1 win over Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Fairfield, Connecticut cruised to a 1-0 win over Richmond, Texas. On the international side, Venezuela rolled to a 5-0 win over Puerto Rico. Panama took advantage of six errors by Australia in a 7-2 victory. The tournament continues Thursday with four more games. The US side of the bracket features matchups between Massachusetts and South Carolina as well as between South Dakota and Pennsylvania. Czechia and Japan kick off the day on the international side, followed by a game between Chinese Taipei and Mexico.

(Lawrence, KA) — The University of Kansas is receiving a historic cash donation from one of its alumni. University officials say alumnus David Booth is pledging 300-million-dollars to boost athletics and campus development. Of that, 75-million-dollars will fund stadium renovations and upgrades around the Gateway District. The remaining funds will support KU Athletics long-term and help adapt to NCAA changes. Booth previously gifted the university 50-million-dollars in 2017 for stadium upgrades.

(Owings Mills, MD) — Keegan Bradley is hoping to successfully defend his crown at the BMW Championship.
