Media reports say the Marion Community Unit School District #2 initiated a soft lockdown Friday after law enforcement requested it. The school indicated the act was in response to potential suspicious activity near the Marion Junior High School, Marion High School and Longfellow Elementary School. The lockdown began shortly after 11 a.m. and was lifted about ten minutes later. School officials said there was little interruption to school activities during the time.
Marion Police had indicated they had responded to a report of a 20-year-old male being treated for a gunshot wound at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center, and said this investigation led them to check into an area near the schools, which prompted the soft lockdown as a precaution. Police later learned the shooting allegedly occurred at the victim’s residence.
