Dansby Swanson lifted a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Andrew Kittredge notched his first save of the season as Chicago has won back-to-back games. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central at 70-and-53. They have a doubleheader against the Brewers today.

JoJo Romero was charged with his fifth loss out of the bullpen after surrendering all four runs. Yohel Pozo homered in the losing effort, while Thomas Saggese drove in a pair of runs. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 61-and-64. They send Matthew Liberatore to the mound against Miami tonight.

ILLINOIS HOOPS TO PLAY UCONN
Fighting Illini basketball fans will look forward to a non-conference battle with U-CONN the next two seasons. The basketball programs have agreed to meet this year at Madison Square Garden in New York on Black Friday, November 28th. A return meeting will take place in Chicago during the 2026-2027 basketball season.

(Undated) — The second week of NFL preseason play will conclude Monday. The Washington Commanders are set to host the Cincinnati Bengals to cap off the week of action. In one of the top games over the weekend, the Rams downed the Chargers 23-22 in a battle for Los Angeles. In other action, the Chicago Bears crushed the Buffalo Bills 38-0, the Baltimore Ravens cruised to a big 31-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Seattle Seahawks toppled the Kansas City Chiefs 33-16, and the Cleveland Browns beat the Philadelphia Eagles 22-13.

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys have received a blow to their receiving corps. ESPN reports that Dallas is fearing that wide receiver Jonathan Mingo suffered an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Saturday’s preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Mingo landed awkwardly after attempting to make a catch during the third quarter and was immediately ruled out. The Cowboys acquired Mingo in a trade with the Carolina Panthers last year. The 24-year-old had five receptions for 46 yards in eight games played with Dallas last season. Mingo was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

(Undated) — The Saints and Jaguars are making a preseason trade. NFL Network is reporting that New Orleans is sending defensive tackle Khalen Saunders [[ KAH-len ]] to Jacksonville in exchange for center Luke Fortner. Saunders is entering his seventh NFL season after spending the last two with New Orleans and the first four of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 29-year-old has 181 tackles and six-and-a-half sacks through 68 career games. Fortner was selected by the Jaguars in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft. He has started 34 games through his first three seasons.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are bolstering their wide receiver room. ESPN reports the team acquired John Metchie-the-Third from the Texans on Sunday in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round pick. Philly is also getting a sixth-rounder as part of the deal. Metchie has 40 career catches to go with a touchdown in 29 games. Bryant has almost 100 receptions in five years.

(East Rutherford, NJ) — The Giants aren’t taking any chances with their top target. According to ESPN, wide receiver Malik Nabers is dealing with a minor back problem. Nabers hasn’t practiced in nearly two weeks, and has missed each of New York’s first two preseason games. He also missed the spring with a toe injury and left a practice earlier this summer after landing on his shoulder. The G-Men open the season on September 7th at the Washington Commanders.

(Undated) — The Red Sox are adding more depth to their lineup. According to ESPN, the Sox are finalizing a deal with first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. The deal will be for a prorated portion of the major league minimum after Lowe went unclaimed on waivers. The 30-year-old is recording career lows in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage this season.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Brewers had their 15-game winning streak halted on Sunday. Milwaukee 3-2 to the Cincinnati Reds in 11 innings. William Contreras gave his team a lead in the ninth inning with a two-run home run. Grant Anderson blew his second save of the season and got the loss out of the bullpen. Milwaukee still has the best record in baseball at 73-and-45 on the season.

(Tuscaloosa, AL) — Alabama football is going to be without a key member of its backfield to kick off the year. According to ESPN, running back Jam Miller suffered an upper body injury during a recent scrimmage and is expected to miss the Crimson Tide’s season opener on August 30th at Florida State. Head coach Kalen DeBoer said Sunday that Miller went in for a procedure on Saturday night and should have a full recovery.

>>Omaha Men’s Hoops Player Deng Mayar Dies In Drowning Accident

(Undated) — The Omaha men’s basketball team is mourning the death of one of its players. Forward Deng Mayar died Saturday in a drowning accident in Herriman, Utah. He was 22. Mayar was reportedly with a friend swimming at the Blackridge Reservoir when they began to struggle in the water. Mayar’s friend reached the shore but went back into the water to help Mayar, who never reemerged after going underwater. The Salt Lake City native transferred to Omaha from North Dakota this offseason. He averaged 6.3 points and four rebounds for North Dakota last season.

(Owings Mills, MD) — Scottie Scheffler is adding another victory to his resume after winning the BMW Championship from Caves Valley Golf Club. Scheffler won the tournament by two strokes after finishing atop the leaderboard at 15 under par. The top golfer in the world now has 18 career Tour wins. Robert MacIntyre finished in second at 13 under. Maverick McNealy was third at 11 under par.

>>Austin Dillon Punches NASCAR Playoff Ticket With Richmond Win

(Richmond, VA) — Austin Dillon is the latest NASCAR Cup Series racer to punch his ticket to the playoffs. The driver of the Number-3 car held off Alex Bowman to take home the checkered flag in the Cook Out 400 from Richmond Raceway. Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano and Austin Cindric rounded out the top-five finishers. The field heads to classic Daytona for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

(South Williamsport, PA) — The Little League World Series continued Sunday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania with four elimination games. On the United States side of the bracket, Washington knocked off Massachusetts 3-2 and Hawaii ousted Illinois 9-1. In the international bracket, Canada beat Australia 12-0 and Mexico took down Panama 2-1. The tournament continues with four more games on Monday. South Carolina and Nevada will square off before Connecticut battles South Dakota on the US side. Internationally, Japan takes on Venezuela and Chinese Taipei will challenge Aruba.
