ON THE SCHEDULE TODAY AT FCHS
Fairfield Community High School will host its annual Meet the Mules event tonight giving fans a chance to kick off the fall sports season and show their Mule spirit. The evening begins at 5:30pm when doors open to the Mule Barn. Taylor Made Food Company will be set up in front of the gym. Introductions for the golf, girls’ tennis, cross country, girls’ swim, and volleyball teams will begin at 6:00 pm followed by a volleyball scrimmage from 6:15 to 6:45pm. At 6:45pm, the crowd will move to the Trainyard for introductions of the marching band, cheerleaders, and football team. The evening will wrap up with a football scrimmage at 7:00 p.m.

The Cubs gained two games in the NL Central race with a double-header sweep over the division-leading Brewers at Wrigley Field. Chicago took game one by the score of 6-4. Willi Castro and Owen Caissie each drove in three runs for Chicago, with the latter hitting his first career home run. The Cubs then secured a 4-1 win in the nightcap. Michael Busch had two RBIs for the Cubs, with Nico Hoerner and Caissie driving in a run each. Jameson Taillon allowed a run in six innings to earn the win, and Andrew Kittredge locked down his second save. Chicago improved to 72-and-54, seven games back of the Brewers in the NL Central. Colin Rea starts for the Northsiders against Milwaukee tonight.
St. Louis Cardinals 7, Miami Marlins 4 The Cardinals claimed a series victory after topping the Marlins 7-4 in Miami. Michael McGreevy earned the win after striking out five over six innings. Ivan Herrera led the way at the plate after going two for five with three runs batted in. St. Louis has won back to back games but remains in fourth place in the NL Central at 63-and-64. The Cardinals send Andre Pallante to the mound against the Marlins tonight.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts have decided on a starting quarterback. Head coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday that Daniel Jones will start the season at QB for Indianapolis. Jones beat out former first round pick Anthony Richardson Sr. The Colts signed Jones in March to a one-year, 14-million-dollar contract. He was originally taken sixth overall in the 2019 draft by the New York Giants.

(Metairie, LA) — The Saints have still yet to decide on who their starting quarterback for the upcoming season will be. New Orleans coach Kellen Moore said that the team still wants to use the third week of the preseason to help make the decision. Moore said that the competition between Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough [[ SHUCK ]] has been very close through training camp. Rattler has thrown for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception this preseason, while Shough has passed for 231 yards, one TD and a pick. The Saints are the lone remaining NFL team to have not named their starting QB.

(Florham Park, NJ) — The Jets aren’t losing hope in their starting quarterback. Head coach Aaron Glenn scoffed at criticism of veteran signal caller Justin Fields, and said he laughs at the noise that happens on the outside. Glenn also insisted that he is very confident in their passing attack. New York wraps up the preseason when it hosts the Philadelphia Eagles Friday night.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — A disgruntled defensive lineman on the Steelers is back with the team despite an ongoing contract dispute. Cameron Heyward returned to practice on Tuesday and took part in drills. However, ESPN reports there’s “no movement” on the veteran’s request for a re-negotiated contract. The 36-year-old has two years left on his deal and is making just under 15-million dollars this season.

(Undated) — Former NBA number one overall pick John Wall is retiring after 13 seasons. He announced the news himself on X with a video of highlights throughout his career, accompanied by the post stating, “Retired but never done.” The Kentucky product was the top selection in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. He spent his first ten seasons with the franchise before spending time with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. Wall missed two full seasons due to injuries, but was named an NBA All-Star five times in his career. He averaged around 19 points per game in his career and earned All-NBA and All-Defensive honors during his peak seasons.

(Lawrence, KS) — The Jayhawks are adding a new member to their men’s basketball team’s coaching staff. ESPN is reporting that Kansas is set to hire Tony Bland as an assistant coach. Bland was implicated in the 2017 FBI investigation that threatened to alter the sport. He was arrested in a federal probe around a bribery scheme and was accused of accepting money in exchange for steering pro prospects to specific individuals and their businesses while he was an assistant at USC. Bland worked as an assistant at Washington last season.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Fever are going to be without guard Sophie Cunningham for the rest of the season. Indiana confirmed on Tuesday that Cunningham suffered a torn MCL in her right knee. The injury occurred during Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. She is expected to make a full recovery. The Fever will host the Minnesota Lynx Friday night.

(South Williamsport, PA) — The Little League World Series continued with four more games on Tuesday. South Carolina eliminated Hawaii with a 3-0 win and South Dakota ousted Washington with a 9-0 victory. On the international side, Japan took out Mexico 6-0 and Aruba beat Canada 6-1. The tournament continues with four more games on Wednesday. On the US side of the bracket, Nevada will take on Connecticut before South Carolina and South Dakota play an elimination game. In the international bracket, Chinese Taipei and Venezuela will face off ahead of an elimination matchup between Aruba and Japan.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is jailed in Mexico after being deported from the U.S. Arresting documents from Mexican authorities show he was arrested Monday. Mexican President Claudia [[ CLOUD-ee-uh ]] Sheinbaum said on Tuesday she didn’t know if he was deported Monday or Tuesday morning. Chavez Jr. is jailed in Sonora. Federal agents arrested him last month outside his Studio City-area home on an active warrant in Mexico. The former WBC middleweight champion was taken into custody four days after he lost to influencer Jake Paul in a ten-round fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
