The Illinois Department of Transportation is accepting applications for seasonal Snowbird positions to assist with snow-and-ice removal and other maintenance duties statewide as part of the annual Snowbird program. Snowbirds may be hired as full-time temporary Highway Maintainers or hourly Snow Removal Operators.
Secretary Gia Biagi emphasized the opportunity, noting the roles can lead to permanent employment and a career at IDOT. Starting pay differs by status: full-time temporary positions pay $6,044 per month, while hourly positions pay $27.79 per hour. Snowbirds must be ready to respond to winter weather conditions at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Applications for full-time temporary Winter Salaried Highway Maintainer and hourly Snow Removal Operator positions must be submitted by Friday, Aug. 22, at illinois.jobs2web.com. Applicants should search by county location and prepare for pre-employment screenings, including a physical, vision test, drug and alcohol screening, and a criminal background check. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
