REAL LIFE CHURCH OPENS AS COMMUNITY TORNADO SHELTER, INSTALLS NEW GENERATOR

By Mark Wells Aug 20, 2025 | 11:56 AM

Real Life Church of Fairfield has become a refuge for the community during tornado warnings, opening its doors to provide shelter for both its congregation and local residents.
Over the past year, many people have sought protection at the church when tornado sirens have sounded. Previously, when power was lost, the building relied on flashlights and emergency exit lighting. To improve safety, the church has now installed a generator that will automatically activate during outages.
When the shelter is open, the message will be displayed on the church’s front sign. In addition, Real Life Church operates a texting service to notify those who sign up when the shelter is available. To be added to the alert list, text 618-842-2759 with your name and phone number.
The installation of the generator was made possible through a donation from Vic and Marty Both, which church leaders say will benefit not only their members but the community as a whole.
Pastors Ed and Deneise Foley invite everyone to seek safety at Real Life Church during tornado warnings, as well as to attend Sunday morning worship services, held each week at 10 a.m.
