Weather and Rivers Info

A pleasant run of weather is expected for the next week, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky.  They say temperatures should run near normal this weekend, and then fall to below normal levels as we begin next week, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80, and lows into the lower 50s.  A dry run of weather is also expected.

With the dry conditions expected and that have occurred the past few days, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map, released this past Thursday, is showing some Abnormally Dry conditions creeping into areas of southwestern Illinois to the west and south of Wayne County.  Moderate Drought conditions are shown in east-central Illinois.

The extended forecasts are showing below normal temperatures in the six to ten day and 8 to 14 day outlooks, running through September 5th.  The 30-day outlook, released this week, favors above normal temperatures for September and equal chances for precipitation to average above or below normal.

Area rivers this morning are as follows:   the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 4.83 feet.  Flood stage is 17 feet.  At Clay City the stage is 4.27 feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet.  At Carmi the river is at 3.5 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 4.98 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 4.23 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 1.26 feet.
