MT. VERNON TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG AND WEAPONS ARREST

A Mt. Vernon man was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop led deputies to discover methamphetamine and an illegal weapon in his vehicle.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Lerone B. McWilliams was pulled over near the intersection of Fairfield Road and Cooper Street. Deputies were assisted by Mt. Vernon Police officers and a K-9 unit during the stop.

The investigation revealed methamphetamine and an illegal “slap jack” style weapon inside McWilliams’s vehicle. He was charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Use of Weapons.

McWilliams was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he awaits a pretrial detention hearing.
