The J.M. Smucker Company is recalling Hostess Chocolate Ding Dongs due to possible mold contamination.
The recall affects two-count, ten-count, and 16-count packages with “best by” dates between August 30th and September 3rd. Impacted products carry UPC codes 8-88109-01002, 8-88109-11061, or 8-88109-11092.
Smucker urges consumers not to eat the snacks because of the risk of ingesting mycotoxins. Customers should either discard the products or return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. The company says the issue stems from a mechanical problem at its Emporia, Kansas plant.
Meanwhile, the FDA announced a separate voluntary recall of certain sugar-free 7Up sodas. Buffalo Rock Company Inc. recalled more than 20,000 cans of 7Up Zero Sugar Tropical Soda after discovering they were mistakenly filled with the regular full-sugar product.
The mislabeled sodas were distributed in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The FDA advises consumers to stop using the product and either return or dispose of it according to the recall notice.
