HIGH SCHOOL GOLF:
On Wednesday, the FCHS Boys and Girls Golf Teams competed in a 5-way match at Richland County. On the Boys side, FCHS finished 4th with a score of 176 with Jake Easton and Zury Taylor leading the team with matching 43’s. Cisne’s Hagen Howard finished tied for fourth with a score of 38. Teutopolis won the match with a team score of 143 with Richland County’s Ayden Nealis the match medalist with a 33.

On the Girls side, FCHS’s Eden Duckworth was the match medalist with a score of 47.

In other Golf matches in the area, Hamilton County beat Carmi-White County 155-165

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL:
On Wednesday night, the Frontier Community College Bobcats earned their first win of the season r in a home matchup with Wabash Valley College. The Bobcats outlasted the Warriors in a five-set tilt with scores of 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, and 15-8. The Bobcats are now 1-1 on the season and the Warriors dropped to 0-2. Frontier’s next home game will be Tuesday, September 2nd hosting Rend Lake at Center Street School. Game time at 6:30pm.

Pedro Pages drove in the Cardinals only run in the losing effort, while Sonny Gray was charged with his seventh loss after giving up one earned run and one unearned run on three hits in seven innings. St. Louis is in fourth place in the AL Central at 65-and-69. Miles Mikolas starts for the Cardinals against the Pirates tonight.
San Francisco Giants 12, Chicago Cubs 3                The Chicago Cubs allowed four home runs during a 12-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The Cubs gave up three runs in the bottom of the third and trailed the rest of the way. Nico Hoerner homered in the losing effort, while Colin Rea was charged with his sixth loss after surrendering six earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits in four-and-two-thirds innings. The Northsiders remain in second place in the NL Central at 76-and-57. Shota Imanaga starts for Chicago against San Francisco this afternoon.

(Baltimore, MD) — The Ravens are signing safety Kyle Hamilton to the largest contract ever for the position. The team announced that Hamilton is signing a four-year deal worth more than 100-million-dollars. The two-time Pro Bowler’s deal includes 82-million-dollars fully guaranteed. Hamilton becomes the highest-paid safety in NFL history, as well as the highest-paid non-quarterback in the team’s history. The extension comes after the Ravens picked up the 24-year-old’s fifth-year option.

(Eagan, MN) — Adam Thielen is coming home. The Vikings acquired the Pro Bowl wide receiver in a trade with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. Minnesota sent a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick to Carolina and also received a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026 and a 2027 fifth-round selection. Thielen was born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and he signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State-Mankato in 2013.

(Santa Clara, CA) — The 49ers are not planning to part ways with one of their top receivers. San Francisco general manager John Lynch said that the team has no plans to trade wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings requested a trade earlier this summer as he enters the final year of a two-year contract extension that he signed in 2024. The 28-year-old participated in the first four practices of training camp before suffering a calf injury that has sidelined him since.

(Undated) — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has agreed to a six-game suspension. Multiple sources say the NFL and NFL Players Association finalized the suspension, which will take effect immediately. Rice was previously cleared to play in the Chiefs’ first four games of the new season. His punishment stems from his recent sentencing in a Dallas County court following a high-speed car crash causing injury in 2024. Rice received 30 days in jail and five years’ probation per the court ruling.

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley said on the “Post Moves” podcast that she had a formal interview for the head coaching job with the Knicks. New York hired Mike Brown to take over for Tom Thibodeau who was fired after leading the team to the Eastern Conference Finals.

(Chapel Hill, NC) — The Tar Heels have settled on a starting quarterback. Head coach Bill Belichick announced Wednesday that former South Alabama signal caller Gio Lopez has been named the Week One starter. Lopez completed 66 percent of his throws for over 25-hundred yards and 18 touchdowns with the Jaguars last season.

(Undated) — Kansas State will be without its star running back for the second game of the season. ESPN is reporting that Wildcats’ tailback Dylan Edwards will sit out the team’s game against North Dakota due to an ankle injury. Edwards is also reportedly considered doubtful for Kansas State’s game against Army on September 6th. The junior was injured in the first quarter during the team’s season-opening loss against Iowa State in Ireland.

(Undated) — The 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team has named its 12-man roster. Team captain Keegan Bradley made his six captain’s picks on Wednesday, selecting Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa [[ MOW-ree-kaa-wuh ]], Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns. They join automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele [[ ZAN-der SHOFF-el-eh ]], Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. Bradley opted not to play, becoming the first U.S. captain with that option since Arnold Palmer in 1963. The Ryder Cup is set for the last weekend of September at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.

The deadline for an extension was Wednesday afternoon, with many subscribers upset about potentially not having access to Fox channels as college football and the NFL are set to fully kick off.

(Flushing, NY) — The second round of the 2025 US Open got underway Wednesday. Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, fourth-seeded American Taylor Fritz, sixth-seeded American Ben Shelton and seventh-seeded Novak Djokovic have advanced to the third round. 17th-seeded Frances Tiafoe was the lone other American to claim a second round victory on Wednesday. On the women’s side, top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, fourth-seeded American Jessica Pegula, fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva and seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini each rolled with straight set wins. 10th-seeded Emma Navarro moved on alongside fellow Americans Ann Li and Taylor Townsend.
