ON THE SCHEDULE TODAY AT FCHS:
The Fairfield Lady Mules will host the annual Kickoff Classic Volleyball Tournament today at Fairfield Community High School and the Center Street gyms.
Eight teams are entered in the event, divided into four pools. Pool A at FCHS includes Fairfield, Cisne, and Mt. Vernon. Pool B at Center Street Gym #1 features Newton, Lawrenceville, and Carbondale. Pool C at Center Street Gym #2 has NCOE, Mt. Carmel, and North Clay. Pool D at Center Street Gym # 3 includes Carmi-White County, Woodlawn, and Oblong. Pool play begins at 9:30 a.m. with matches scheduled throughout the morning. Bracket play starts at 1 p.m., with the championship set for 4 o’clock between the winners of the earlier semifinal rounds.
Admission for spectators is $5 for the entire day.
The Tom Wickham Cross Country Invitational will return to Leo F. French Memorial Park today with girls runners starting at 9:30am and boys at 10:15am. The event will feature teams including Fairfield, Hamilton County, NCOE, Grayville, Massac County, Clay City/Flora Coop, Mt. Carmel, West Frankfort, Eldorado, Pope County, and North Clay. Parking will be available in the lot west of the swimming pool.
Fairfield Junior Football League will host Flora at The Trainyard today. 5th/6th Grade game at 5pm and 7th/8th Grade game around 7pm.
FRIDAY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCORES:
On Friday night at the Trainyard, the Fairfield Mules and Edwards County Lions faced off in a hotly contested matchup in the annual Shrine Game. The Mules managed to outlast the Lions 38 to 33 to claim the Shriner’s Gregg Edwards Memorial Trophy. FCHS senior Lane Robson came away with Fairfield’s Shrine Game MVP Award behind 2 receptions for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 47-yard touchdown as the 1st half ended.
FCHS also saw impressive performances from junior Michael Barner, who had 11 rushes for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns and Austin Grieve who led the team with 9 tackles.
Brodie Dardeen received Edwards County’s Shrine Game MVP Award with a performance that saw 21 rushes for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Mules move to 1-0 and will face Red Hill at home next week. Edwards County drops to 0-1 and will on the road again next week against Eldorado.
