Carrie Jo (Rutger) Dagg, 46, of Cisne, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at her home. Carrie was born October 2, 1978, in Fairfield, Illinois to Dale and Rhonda Rutger. She married Wayde Dagg on May 15, 1998. They celebrated 27 years together in marriage and were sweethearts since 1994. Carrie Jo touched the lives of everyone she met. She left behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will never be forgotten.
Carrie was the proud mother of four children: Karley Dagg, Konnor Dagg, Keller Dagg and Kordale Dagg. She is also survived by her stepfather and mother, Jerry and Rhonda (Harper) Peeples, sister, Kelli (Randy) Keen, stepbrothers, Mike (Tamara) Peeples and Jeff (Michelle) Peeples, mother-in-law, Christine Dagg, brothers-in-law, Kyle (Natalie) Dagg and Tyler (Brandi) Dagg, sister-in-law Lacey Dagg and fiancé Jim Gingerich and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and her beloved dog, Soco.
Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Dale Rutger, father-in-law, Robert Dagg, maternal grandparents, Raymond and Lois Harper and paternal grandparents, Lyle and Marie Rutger.
In Carrie’s diverse career, she served her community in a variety of roles. Most recently, she served as the Wayne County Coroner from 2020 to 2025, a position that showcased her dedication to public service and compassion for others. She was a beloved instructor at Frontier Community College, teaching GED, biology, physics, CPR, and first aid for over 20 years. Her passion for education touched the lives of countless students.
In the past, Carrie was a firefighter with the Rural Wayne City Fire Department. She also worked for the Clay County Advocate Press and Wayne County Press and worked with both the Clay and Wayne County Health Departments. Carrie also devoted her time and energy to the Junior Mules Football program and was a strong and loving presence in the lives of those who knew her. Carrie was involved in the Wayne County 4-H program and attended Merriam Community Church with her family. As a Christian, Carrie Jo’s most important goal in life was sharing the love of Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her warmth and generosity.
Visitation will be held at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home on Monday, September 15th from 5 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Merriam Community Church on Tuesday, September 16th at 10 AM, with burial to follow in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the local charity, Beyond the Badge, or to the Junior Mules Football program, continuing her legacy of service to the community.
