USDA FORECASTS HIGHER FARM PROFITS FOR 2025

By Mark Wells Sep 11, 2025 | 11:55 AM

The USDA has revised its 2025 farm income forecast, projecting stronger profits for U.S. agriculture despite rising production expenses.

Net farm income is now expected to reach $179.8 billion, a $52 billion increase — up 40.7% from 2024. Net cash farm income is also forecast to climb by $40.1 billion.

The gains are being driven largely by higher cash receipts in the livestock sector, which are projected to rise 4.7% this year.

At the same time, farm production costs are expected to increase by $11.9 billion in 2025, led by higher labor expenses, livestock and poultry purchases, and interest costs.
