CARMI TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MAJOR METH SEIZURE, TWO ARRESTS

A late-night traffic stop in Carmi has led to the seizure of nearly 19 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and two arrests.

Carmi Police say officers stopped a vehicle just before midnight Wednesday at the McDonald’s restaurant in town. Inside, they recovered 18.98 pounds of meth, a stolen firearm, and ammunition.

The driver, 36-year-old Charles Abner of Leo, Indiana, faces multiple felony charges, including meth trafficking, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful use of weapons by a felon, possession of meth with intent to deliver, and possession of a controlled substance. He remains in jail awaiting a detention hearing.

A passenger, 46-year-old Jessica M. Lane of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was cited for possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. She was released after booking with a notice to appear in court.
