ABANDONED HOME SOUTH OF MT. VERNON DESTROYED IN EARLY MORNING FIRE

A fire destroyed an abandoned home south of Mt. Vernon early Saturday morning, though the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
The fire, located on Triton Lane, had already burned through the metal roof and spread throughout part of the home by the time a passerby spotted it and called authorities. The home is likely a total loss.
No injuries were reported.
Jefferson Fire called in assistance from Mt. Vernon City, Woodlawn, Waltonville, and Bluford fire departments to help contain the blaze. Kell and Wayne City fire departments stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in case of additional emergencies.
