Dorothy Jean (Cushman) South, 98, of Enfield

 Dorothy Jean (Cushman) South, 98, of Enfield passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  She was born on July 4, 1927 in Springerton, IL the daughter of George Harlan and Mary Leona (Wright) Cushman.  Dorothy married Garrett Francis South on August 31, 1946 and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2019.  She had worked as a bookkeeper at C.A. French and Son and later helped Garrett on the family farm.  Dorothy enjoyed working in her garden and canning what she grew. She loved to cook and wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat.  Dorothy was a faithful member of over 70 years at Springerton Christian Church.

Dorothy is survived by a sister, Shirley Carter of Norris City; two sisters-in-law, Reba Cushman and Dixie South both of Enfield; along with numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, Linda Lou South, sisters, Joyce Smith, Norma Etienne and June Rister and brothers, Larry Cushman, Carl Cushman and Charles Cushman.

Funeral Services for Dorothy Jean South, 98, of Enfield will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2025 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield.  Burial will follow in Little Zion Cemetery in Enfield.  Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springerton Christian Church and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home or by mail to 609 W.
