The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department along with Orchardville Fire Department and First Responders and Wayne City EMS personnel responded to a two-vehicle accident on County Highway 16 near County Highway 13 near the Orchardville crossroads on Thursday morning around 6:45.
Deputies say 51-year-old Christy Miller of Xenia was driving a Toyota fork truck at a slow rate of speed east on CH 16 after turning left from CH 13. A Volkswagen Passat, driven by 71-year-old Robert Easley of Iuka, was also traveling eastbound behind Miller’s vehicle.
Deputies noted Easley was blinded by the rising sun and could not slow in time, striking the left side of Miller’s fork truck, then swerved in the roadway causing the Easley vehicle to overturn, coming to rest on its top facing southwest.
Miller refused medical treatment at the scene. Easley was transported by Wayne City Ambulance to Clay County Hospital in Flora.
