The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Flora man after responding to a 911 call that escalated into reports of gunfire last Friday afternoon in rural Clay County.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence around 4:05 p.m. on September 19th after a 911 hang-up call, followed by another report of a man breaking down a door and yelling. When the first deputy arrived, he saw a male exit a vehicle and enter the home. The man, later identified as 39-year-old Nicholas R. Robertson of Flora, appeared intoxicated when he came back outside.
According to authorities, Robertson resisted when the deputy tried to stop him from reaching into his vehicle. He was eventually restrained and secured in a squad car as backup arrived. Deputies said they found handgun ammunition on Robertson.
Investigators learned Robertson had been in a physical altercation with others inside the residence and had reportedly been armed with a handgun during the incident. Witnesses said he discharged the weapon outside the home. Deputies recovered a spent shell casing at the scene.
Robertson was arrested on multiple charges, including Domestic Battery, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence, Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Possession of a Firearm Without a Valid FOID Card.
He appeared in Clay County Court on Monday where the Judge denied Pretrial Release at the request of State’s Attorney Phillip Givens. Robertson remains held in the Clay County Jail.
