Lynn Smith, 73, of Norris City

Lynn Smith, 73, of Norris City passed away on September 22, 2025, at his residence in Norris City surrounded by his family. He was born on December 28, 1951, in Norris City at his family home, the son of Charles and Norma (Martin) Smith. Lynn married Mary Ann Walters on August 28, 1971, and they shared over 54 years of marriage together. Lynn was a member of the Norris City Church of God and served for many years as the Sunday School Superintendent. From an early age Lynn developed the love of agriculture and continued that throughout his adult life with retiring from Wabash Valley after 43 years of service. He also loved to fish, go to tractor and farm shows, farm auctions, tractor pulls, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Walters) Smith of Norris City, IL; his mother, Norma Babcook of Springfield, IL; his children, Malinda Ann Nelson of Norris City, IL and Racheal Jean (Shain) Stokes of Norris City, IL; his siblings, Jimmy Lee Smith, Yvonne (Danny) Williams, Rita Smith, Sherry Grant, Robbie Smith, Tommy Smith, Brad (Mary) Babcook; his bonus siblings Ann Babcook, Lisa, and Charleston Smith; his grandchildren, Dr. Wyatt Andrew (Dr. Summer Sparks) Nelson, Mitchell Lynn Nelson, William Lane Thompson, and Sadie Jean Stokes. He was preceded in death by his father, grandmother Opal Leach, bonus father James Babcook, mother and father-in-law Hiram and Anna Walters, sister-in-law Cathy Smith, brother-in-law Rusty Smith and a half-brother Brian.

Funeral Services for Lynn Smith, 73, of Norris City will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lynn’s memory to Norris City Church of God, envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821.
