The FCHS Girls Golf Team traveled to Franklin County on Wednesday for the 18-hole Black Diamond Conference Championship. Despite the soggy conditions, Fairfield finished 5th overall. Fairfield’s Eden Duckworth earned All-Conference honors finishing 6th overall shooting a 94. She was joined in the top-40 by Lela Duckworth-11th, Amelia Hopfinger-14th, and Carly Colclasure-38th.

FCC LADY BOBCATS VOLLEYBALL:
The Frontier Lady Bobcats earned a win over Southeastern Illinois College at home on Wednesday night. The Bobcats won in 3 sets, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18. The Lady Bobcats are now 9-10 overall and 4-4 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
2025-2026 FINAL YEAR OF MIDLAND TRAIL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Member schools have voted unanimously 9-0 to discontinue the Midland Trail Conference Tournament, which usually takes place in January. This upcoming basketball season will be the final year that the teams play a Conference Tournament in addition to their regular season conference games. The 2026 Tournament will be played at Woodlawn High School.
In the discussion and voting to discontinue the Conference Tournament, most schools stated that they would rather have the freedom to get involved in a Mid-Winter Tournament elsewhere against different competition, or be able to schedule additional regular season games or Shootouts on their schedule.

IHSA RE-CLASSIFIES SOME SPORTS
Corrected school enrollment data supplied to the IHSA by the ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) has affected the classification of some school teams in various IHSA sports competition.
The corrected data changed enrollment for nearly every public schools by at least a handful of students, give or take. In some instances, that minor change caused some teams to be re-classified in a specific sport or two.
Some of the most notable changes affect Boys soccer teams in the region. Effingham, Olney, and Salem are now each competing in Class 1A instead of 2A as previously announced.
In Boys Cross Country, Benton and Columbia both drop from
Class 2A to Class 1A. The same change takes effect in Girls Cross Country as well.
In Boys Golf, Harrisburg, Massac County, and Roxana drop from Class 2A to Class 1A.
In Girls Golf, Centralia, Mattoon, Rantoul, and Decatur Eisenhower all drop from Class 2A to Class 1A.
In Girls Volleyball, Effingham, Olney, and Salem each drop down from Class 3A to Class 2A.
In Boys and Girls basketball, Effingham Olney and Salem will compete in Class 2A.
In Baseball and Softball, Effingham, Olney, and Salem will compete in Class 2A.

San Francisco Giants 4, St. Louis Cardinals 3 The St. Louis Cardinals failed to complete a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants thanks to a 4-3 loss in the series finale at Oracle Park yesterday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth before Riley O’Brien gave up a go-ahead triple to Andrew Knizner. O’Brien was charged with his first loss in relief. The Cardinals remain in fourth place in the NL Central at 78-and-81. They visit the Cubs tomorrow.
Chicago Cubs 10, New York Mets 3 The Chicago Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the third during a 10-3 win over the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. Matt Shaw and Michael Busch both homered in the victory, while Matthew Boyd earned his 14th win after holding the Mets to just two runs on two hits in five-and-a-third innings. The Cubs have the top NL Wild Card spot with an 89-and-69 record. Shota Imanaga starts for the Northsiders against New York tonight.

(Bronx, NY) — The Yankees’ captain continues to make history. Aaron Judge tied a major league record Wednesday night after reaching 50 home runs for the fourth time in his career. He later added his 51st homer in New York’s 8-1 win over the White Sox. Judge joins Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa as just the fourth player to slug 50 homers in four separate seasons. He went deep 52 times as a rookie in 2017, launched an AL record 62 long balls in 2022, and crushed another 58 for the Bronx Bombers last year.

(Seattle, WA) — The Mariners are champions of the American League West. Seattle clinched the division title with a 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at home. This is the first time the Mariners have won their division since 2001, when they set the MLB record for wins with 116. The team clinched a playoff berth Tuesday night with a 4-3 win over the Rockies and has won 16 of its last 17 games.

(Seattle, WA) — Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh put himself in rarefied air Wednesday. The American League MVP candidate is now hitting .248 with 60 long balls and 125 RBIs this season.

(Cleveland, OH) — The Guardians are ruling out one of their players for a potential postseason run. David Fry will miss six-to-eight weeks after getting hit in the face with a near 100-mile-per-hour fastball during Tuesday’s win over the Tigers. The first baseman suffered a broken nose and facial fractures, but is expected to make a full recovery. Fry was attempting a bunt before getting hit.

(Undated) — A member of the Athletics infield is recovering from shoulder surgery. A’s second baseman Zack Gelof [[ GEHL-off ]] underwent successful surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder on Wednesday. Gelof had an anterior labral-capsule repair in Los Angeles after suffering the injury while diving to field a ground ball in the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Friday. The 25-year-old did not make his season debut until July 4th after breaking a bone in his right hand during spring training. Gelof hit .174 with two home runs and seven RBIs through 30 games played this season. He is expected to be fully healthy for spring training.

(Undated) — Indiana football will keep its secondary intact for the remainder of the season. Starting safety Louis Moore was granted eligibility by a judge on Wednesday, allowing him to continue playing for the Hoosiers. Moore filed a lawsuit in August challenging the NCAA’s five-year eligibility rule. He argued that his three years at Navarro Junior College should not count against his eligibility. It was ruled that the rule violated the Texas Antitrust Act. Indiana is 4-and-0 and will visit Iowa Saturday afternoon.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Los Angeles Sparks are getting a new practice facility. The team has announced plans to build a 150-million-dollar, 55-thousand-square-foot practice facility that is scheduled to open in 2027 in El Segundo. The plan represents the largest investment to date for a single team in the history of women’s sports. The Sparks join the Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky, New York Liberty and Dallas Wings as teams to announce plans to construct a new practice facility moving forward.
