The FCHS Lady Mules Volleyball team traveled to Mt. Carmel Monday night for a matchup with the Lady Golden Aces. Fairfield got the victory in 2 sets, 25-19 & 25-10. The JV Squad also got the victory in 2 sets, 25-9 & 25-16. The Frosh squad opened the night with their own 2 set win, 25-16 & 25-11. The Lady Mules, 16-5 on the season, will travel to Carmi tonight for an always tough matchup with their conference rival, Lady Bulldogs.

The New Hope Lady Panthers Softball team reign again as Regional Champions after defeating Cisne by a score of 6-1 on Monday. This is New Hope’s 3rd consecutive Softball Regional Championship. New Hope now advances to the Class S State Tournament and will play Century on Saturday at the Oasis Sports Complex in Marion.
The Center Street Lady Colts Softball also came away as Regional Champions after defeating Woodlawn 14-7 on Monday. The Lady Colts will begin Class M State Tournament play on Saturday at the Perry County Fairgrounds in Pinckneyville versus Dupo

(St. Louis, MO) – The St. Louis Cardinals have officially completed their transition of power. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak stepped down from his position yesterday. Mozeliak’s retirement makes way for Chaim Bloom to take over. Bloom was hired by the club as an advisor two years ago. He was tabbed as Mozeliak’s successor in September of 2024 when Mozeliak announced his plans to retire. Bloom will be officially introduced as the Cardinals’ new President of Baseball Operations today.

(Champaign, IL) — A pair of Fighting Illini football stars are making a name for themselves in the Big Ten. Quarterback Luke Altmyer was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week yesterday, while kicker David Olano won the Special Teams Player of the Week award. Altmyer had two passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and one receiving touchdown in a win over USC on Saturday, while Olano kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired in the victory. The number-22 Illini visit Purdue this Saturday.

In a statement, the head of the Giants organization says he’s feeling strong and optimistic, and committed to seeing it through to a positive outcome. He says he’ll remain active with the team throughout treatment. He asked to respect his privacy and his family’s at this time. The news comes on the heels of the Giants first win of the season on Sunday, with new starting quarterback Jaxson Dart.

(Santa Clara, CA) — The 49ers may be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy once again after suffered a setback of a toe injury that he originally suffered in Week One. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said that Purdy would be evaluated more Monday before the team has an idea of the severity of his turf toe injury. The 25-year-old’s status for the team’s Thursday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Rams is now seen as being up in the air. Purdy passed for 309 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in San Fran’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

(Undated) — The Ravens will be without a key defender for the rest of the season. Baltimore defensive lineman NNamdi Madubuike will not play again this year due to a neck injury, coach John Harbaugh announced on Monday. Madubuike was hurt during the team’s win over the Cleveland Browns in week two and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. The 27-year-old had seven total tackles and two sacks this year.

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers are moving on from the winningest active manager in baseball. Texas announced that Bruce Bochy will not return to the team’s dugout in 2026. The Rangers just wrapped up a 2025 season that saw them finish third in the AL West at 81-and-81 and miss the postseason for the second straight year. The 70-year-old led the franchise to its only World Series championship in 2023. Bochy ranks sixth all-time with 2,252 wins during his career as a manager. No managers in the last 60 years have more than Bochy’s four World Series titles.

(San Francisco, CA) — The Giants are on the search for a new manager. San Francisco skipper Bob Melvin has been fired following a disappointing season that saw the Giants finish third in the NL West at 81-and-81. Melvin had his option for the 2026 picked up in July, but the franchise has decided to move on after a shaky finish to the 2025 campaign. San Fran president of baseball operations Buster Posey said that “making a change in leadership was in the best interest of the team.” The three-time Manager of the Year went 161-and-163 in his two seasons leading the squad. The Giants have not made the playoffs since 2021.

(Queens, NY) — The Mets are sticking to their guns. President of baseball operations David Stears confirmed Monday that Carlos Mendoza will return as manager for the 2026 season. New York’s season ended with a loss to the Miami Marlins, and failed to clinch a postseason berth despite holding the best record in the majors in the middle of June. Stearns also said the team will evaluate the remainder of the coaching staff before making any further decisions.

(Las Vegas, NV) — The Las Vegas Aces will host the Indiana Fever on Tuesday in a win-or-go-home game five of the WNBA semifinals. The series is tied at two games apiece following a 90-83 win by Indiana on its home floor Sunday. Kelsey Mitchell led the way for the Fever with 25 points, while Aliyah Boston had 24 and 14 rebounds. Each team has won at home and on the road so far this series. The winner will face the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA Finals, which will begin on Friday.
