A rural Norris City man was injured Friday night after being trampled by a bull. The incident happened around 9 p.m. when Donis Watts was tending to the animal.
Authorities said the bull knocked Watts down and trampled him. Watts later told rescuers he managed to crawl under a rabbit cage for protection until help arrived.
Emergency crews, including White County Ambulance personnel, Norris City firefighters, and other volunteers, responded to the scene. They distracted the bull while Watts received medical attention. During the effort, one EMT was butted by the bull and knocked down but was not injured.
Witnesses at the scene feared Watts suffered a broken back in the attack. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby field next to the NCOE school, where a waiting helicopter airlifted him to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
