HIGH SCHOOL GOLF FROM MONDAY:
On Monday, the FCHS Boys and Girls Golf Teams finished out their regular seasons at the Fairfield Public Golf Course with a Senior Day match against Salem, Woodlawn, Wayne City, and Cisne. On the Boys side, Fairfield finished 2nd overall and were led by Senior Jake Easton who finished 3rd and Cruz Wells who finished 4th. Cisne’s Hagen Howard was the match Medalist shooting a 34. For the Lady Mules, Senior Eden Duckworth finished 1st, followed by her sister, Senior Lela Duckworth-2nd, and Amelia Hopfinger-4th

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:
On Tuesday night, the Fairfield Lady Mules traveled to Carmi for a tough Black Diamond Conference matchup with the Lady Bulldogs. Despite winning the opening set, the Varsity Lady Mules fell to Carmi in 3 sets, 25-19, 21-25, & 16-25. The JV squad battled for a 2 set win, 25-19 & 25-20. The Frosh team opened the night falling to Carmi 12-25 & 24-26. The Lady Mules next matchup will be Thursday night at Edwards County.

The Cisne Lady Lions faced Webber on Tuesday night and came away with a 2 sets victory, 25-11 & 25-18. The JV squad also picked up a victory in 3 sets, 24-26, 25-11, & 15-9.

The Wayne City Lady Indians Volleyball team battled Zeigler-Royalton on Tuesday night and came away with a decisive victory in 2 sets, 25-13 & 25-19.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF REGIONALS:
The FCHS Lady Mules Golf Team competed Tuesday in the IHSA Class 1A Regional at West Berwick Country Club in Mt. Carmel. Fairfield’s Eden Duckworth shot a 92 to finish 15th and advance to the 1A Sectional next Monday at Monticello.

JR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY:
On Tuesday, Cross Country teams from Fairfield, Wayne City, New Hope, and Cisne competed in the Wayne City Invitational. Medalists for Fairfield were: Varsity Girls: Laken Haygood-7th; JV Girls: Addison Lawyer-2nd, Chloe Esmon-3rd, & Bristol Flanagan-10th; JV Boys: Clay Hooper-7th, Cohen Richards-10th, Jaise Wilkerson-13th, & Bo Laird-16th. Results for Wayne City, New Hope, and Cisne were not readily available.

(St. Louis, MO) — Chaim Bloom has officially taken over as the Cardinals president of baseball operations. Bloom spoke to reporters yesterday and detailed how the franchise needs to focus on player development within the organization in order to accomplish its ultimate goal of winning the World Series. Bloom also noted that Oli Marmol will return as the club’s manager in 2026. Bloom spent the last two seasons as the heir-apparent to John Mozeliak, who stepped down from the role on Monday.

(Undated) — The Ravens have reportedly been dealt a devastating blow. According to Brian Wacker of the Baltimore Sun, quarterback Lamar Jackson could miss two to three weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. Cooper Rush would likely get the nod for Baltimore with Jackson out. Rush completed nine of 13 passes for 52 yards in relief of Jackson against Kansas City. The 1-and-3 Ravens will host the Houston Texans on Sunday.

(Miami, FL) — The Dolphins are down one of their star players for the rest of the season. ESPN reports Tyreek Hill underwent a major procedure to repair a dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments on Tuesday. Hill’s agent said the “realistic” goal is for him to return at the start of next season. The 31-year-old got hurt during the team’s Monday Night Football win over the Jets.

(Undated) — The first day of the MLB postseason is in the books. Tarik Skubal [[ tare-ick sku-bl ]] tied Detroit’s playoff record with 14 strikeouts while leading the Tigers to a 2-1 road win over the Cleveland Guardians in Game One of their AL Wild Card Series. Elsewhere in the AL, Boston starter Garrett Crochet [[ crow-SHAY ]] retired 17 straight batters as the Red Sox downed the New York Yankees 3-1 in the Bronx. In National League action, the Cubs scored three unanswered runs to beat the San Diego Padres in Chicago. The day was capped off with the Dodgers belting five home runs en route to a 10-5 takedown of the Cincinnati Reds in Los Angeles. The action continues Wednesday with four Game Two matchups.

(Anaheim, CA) — The Angels are beginning the search for a new skipper. Los Angeles announced that manager Ron Washington will not be returning to the team’s dugout next season. Washington missed more than half of the 2025 season after undergoing quadruple bypass heart surgery. The 73-year-old was 99-and-137 in two seasons with Los Angeles. ESPN reports that interim manager Ray Montgomery will also not be getting the full-time manager role in 2026. The Angels will now search for their sixth manager in the last nine years.

(Tampa, FL) — The Rays are officially changing hands. The sale between former owner Stu Sternberg and new leadership headed by Patrick Zalupski was finalized on Tuesday. The price was undisclosed. The fresh group is expected to restart efforts at finding a new ballpark. Sternberg originally bought the team for 200-million dollars back in 2004.

>>Warriors Sign Kuminga To Two-Year Deal

(Undated) — The Warriors have inked a key member of their rotation to a new deal. Golden State is signing restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga [[ coo-MIN-guh ]] to a two-year, 48.5-million-dollar deal. The deal includes a team option in the second year and puts an end to a contract stalemate that has gone on all summer. The 22-year-old chose the two-year pact over a three-year, 75-million-dollar deal so he can maintain a higher level of control over his immediate future. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points in 47 games played last season. In other news, ESPN reports that free agent guard Seth Curry has agreed to a one-year deal with the team.

>>Wild Sign Kaprizov To Record-Setting Contract Extension

(Undated) — The Wild are making their star forward the highest-paid player in NHL history. Minnesota is signing left wing Kirill Kaprizov [[ kih-REEL kah-PREE-zawf ]] to an eight-year, 136-million-dollar contract extension to keep him with the team through the 2033-34 season. The deal is the highest in NHL history in terms of total money and average annual value at 17-million-dollars. The contract kicks in next season and reportedly includes large signing bonuses over the first four years. The 28-year-old has 25 goals and 31 assists in 41 games played last season. He ranks fourth in team history with 185 goals and fifth with 386 points.

>>Aces Advance Past Fever, Will Play Mercury In WNBA Finals

(Las Vegas, NV) — The WNBA Finals are set. The Las Vegas Aces beat the Indiana Fever 107-98 in overtime to advance to their third WNBA Finals in the past four years. A’ja Wilson led the way for the Aces with 35 points, while Jackie Young contributed 32 points, becoming the first duo to score 30-plus points each in a WNBA playoff game. Las Vegas will take on the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA Finals, which will begin Friday in Sin City. The Aces went 3-and-1 against Phoenix during the regular season.

>>Napheesa Collier Slams WNBA Leadership

(New York, NY) — A WNBA star is slamming the league’s commissioner. On Tuesday Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa [[ nah-fee-sha ]] Collier said the WNBA has “the worst leadership in the world.” Collier criticized WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert over issues of officiating and player salaries, saying the real threat to the league is “the lack of accountability from the league office.” It comes after the Lynx were eliminated from the playoffs by the Phoenix Mercury Sunday night. Collier didn’t play in that game, after suffering an injury in Game 3 of the semifinals, in a play that resulted in no foul call.
