ILLINOIS HARVEST PROGRESS AHEAD OF AVERAGE

According to the USDA, Illinois farmers are making steady progress with this year’s harvest. As of Sunday, 21% of the state’s corn crop has been harvested—3% ahead of the five-year average. Corn condition statewide is rated 57% good to excellent, with 85% of the crop mature and 98% dented.

Soybean harvest is also moving ahead of schedule, with 21% harvested, 7% above the average. Fifty-two percent of soybeans are rated in good condition, and 89% of the crop is dropping leaves.

For the week ending September 28th, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork across the state.

Statewide Corn Progress:

98% dented (5-year average: 95%)

85% mature (5-year average: 77%)

21% harvested (5-year average: 18%)

Condition: 6% very poor, 10% poor, 27% fair, 46% good, 11% excellent

Statewide Soybean Progress:

89% dropping leaves (5-year average: 76%)

21% harvested (5-year average: 14%)

Condition: 8% very poor, 14% poor, 26% fair, 42% good, 10% excellent

Winter wheat planting is also underway, with 12% of the crop planted and 1% emerged, both ahead of the five-year averages.

Farmers continue to take advantage of favorable field conditions as harvest continues across Illinois.
