MARY BETH SMITH ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT, WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION AS EDWARDS COUNTY CLERK & RECORDER

Edwards County Clerk & Recorder Mary Beth Smith announced yesterday (Wednesday) that she will retire on October 31st and will not seek re-election.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as County Clerk & Recorder for the residents of Edwards County,” Smith said. “After careful thought and discussion with my family, I’ve decided it’s time to step back, embrace retirement, and make space for new leadership. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and grateful for the incredible team I’ve worked alongside.”

Smith noted her time in office has brought opportunities to work closely with county employees, fellow officers, and clerks across the state, many of whom have become lifelong friends.

During her tenure, Smith oversaw significant modernization, including digitization of land records, implementation of electronic recording, and improvements in election procedures. She emphasized transparency, service, and efficiency throughout her years in office.

Her final day in office will be October 31st.
