Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9 Commander, Lieutenant Brian Wilson, has released the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols conducted throughout Clay, Effingham, Edwards, Wayne, and Hamilton counties during the month of September.

The ACE patrols were part of an ongoing effort to prevent, detect, and take enforcement action against violations related to impaired driving, as well as illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and drugs. During these patrols, officers issued 95 speeding violations, 73 total citations, and 158 written warnings. Additional enforcement actions included 25 occupant restraint violations, 14 driver’s license offenses, 2 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests, and 7 other alcohol or drug-related citations.

Alcohol and drug impairment are considered contributing factors in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Nationally, there is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes. The ACE program aims to intensify the removal of dangerous DUI offenders from Illinois roadways.

This traffic safety program is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
